Everyone deserves a
decent place to live.
our impact
Since 1984, over 140 families in this area have achieved their goal of affordable homeownership.
About 50% of these homeowners have proudly paid off their mortgage and own their own home.
who we are
We bring people together to build homes, communities and hope… because everyone should have a decent place to call home.
We help local families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
how Habitat works
1.
Families apply to our Homeownership Program. Families must currently be living in substandard housing, have a steady income, and be willing to partner with NEMS Habitat. Learn more about applying.
2.
Sponsors and donors contribute financial resources which allow us to purchase the tools and materials necessary to build or rehabilitate a home. You can be a part of this vital work by donating today.
3.
Volunteers help build homes alongside families currently in the program and with the assistance of our full-time Construction Supervisor. No previous experience or skill is required. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities.
4.
Future homeowners who are accepted into the program prepare for homeownership by completing 300 hours of sweat equity including completing financial literacy classes to help manage debt and budget for the future. Learn more about what it takes to own a NEMS Habitat home.
5.
New homes are sold to families through an affordable, 20, 25 or 30-year, no-interest mortgage.
6.
Paying it forward. Homeowner mortgages are then reinvested in future NEMS Habitat homes, helping even more families achieve affordable homeownership.
